This was Darren Hayes’s response on his Instagram when a fan requested a Savage Garden reunion:
“I love that people love Savage Garden. I LOVE SAVAGE GARDEN. It frustrates me that some people don’t know that I have never stopped singing the songs, however. Solo or Savage. It’s all the same to me. I have never stopped. It’s a guardianship of cherished memories and I will always perform these songs and protect them because they belong to you! I get nostalgia – but there is always a reason a relationship ends. Doesn’t matter if that’s romantic or business. People break up for a reason and it’s usually for the best. For what it’s worth: I never left. And I never left you. I just continued. If you don’t know that : maybe you left me?”
Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones started the band “Savage Garden” in 1994, initially calling it Crush and even Bliss. They put out two albums: Savage Garden in 1997 and Affirmation in 1999, both of which were very successful. Sadly, Daniel decided to leave, leading to the band’s breakup in 2001. This prompted Darren to pursue a solo career, during which he released several solo albums. Meanwhile, Daniel has largely stepped away from the public eye to concentrate on being a husband and father.
Over the past 20 years since their split, Darren has received numerous requests from fans for a Savage Garden reunion. In the 2000s, he remarked that he would:
“only do it if it cured cancer.”
In 2022 while promoting his album, “Homosexual,” Darren said the following in an interview with Kylie and Jackie-O:
“I would have been in that band forever.”
“(Speaking about Daniel) His leaving was a huge rug pulled out from under me, and for contractual reasons we couldn’t really talk about it. He held that press conference where he said, ‘Oh, this is the first I’ve heard of it’ – which was such a stupid thing to say, because people thought I’d left the band.”
In a 2024 Nova interview, Darren mentioned that Daniel had contacted him several times, stating he would publicly apologize on record, but Darren turned down the offer.

Kristin’s thoughts: Naturally, many fans have held onto that nostalgia since the early days of Savage Garden, but Darren is still performing; he hasn’t abandoned us, and we shouldn’t abandon him either. A genuine fan will keep supporting the artist even after a band disbands and during their solo endeavors.
